"Mom's Plus One" Lookbook

I'm a huge fan of the tight top/wide pant combo, and I think keeping a reserved, high neckline really shows how close Skyler keeps things to her chest under a mask of sarcasm. It's Taos Aunt Summer - silver, turquoise, unbleached natural fibers. This mom is too cool for her growns. Finding the balance between "cool-looking streetwear" and "work uniform" is hard - it's all in the confidence of the actor. You can pry my immature graphic tees out of my cold, dead hands - nothing builds character like them. For some reason, Pinterest won't give you many results when you type in "Taos Aunt." It's the younger, hipper version of beach grandma. Anyway, watch this space for when "Mom's Plus One" eventually drops.

Assets for the Northern Colorado Film Network, 2024

In 2024 I had the opportunity to help coordinate meetups for filmmakers in the Fort Collins area. My duties included creating social media images and posts to promote monthly events, hosting Facebook events and creating slideshows for myself and others to present with. Below are several social media images promoting the events, created with the brand guide I helped develop. 2024 Brand Guide 2024 Promotional Images

"Occult Kickstarter" Lookbook

Here is the lookbook I prepared when pitching costume concepts on the short "Occult Kickstarter." Our final look ended up being heavily inspired by that pre-1910 Egypt image on page two, but I pulled from many sources when coming up with this aesthetic. Scanned in this set include magazine cutouts, fabric scraps, and even a piece of petrified wood. The cloaks were made from a simple, unbleached muslin, with reverse appliqué details holding together the sleeves. The pattern originated as a Vogue dupe of a Ralph Lauren knit poncho from the early '90s.

PDFs from my time as Editor-in-Chief of the Mirror

As the Mirror closes its doors as an independent organization and shuts down its print wing, I have decided to share PDFs of print editions from my time as editor-in-chief, so they are archived in a place accessible to the general public. While I troubleshoot ways to embed the PDFs on this page, please enjoy this Google Drive link !

Currying Favor

Panang curry is a dish with a long history and rich cultural background. Smelling of peanuts, ginger and kaffir lime leaves, its sweet coconut milk base is much milder than other curries from Thailand. Served over rice seasoned with pepper and garlic, this dish is an ideal meal for the cold days of February in Colorado. While many restaurants and home kitchens prepare their curries with love from scratch, this curry was made with a kit purchased at King Soopers. Beginning with a bright orange curry paste tempered with coconut milk, the sauce was simmered with Kroger brand frozen vegetables and turkey meatballs. The curry’s notes of galangal and lemongrass melded nicely with the onions and green peppers present in the vegetable mix especially designed for stir fries. Cooked the night before, then chilled overnight to allow the flavors to mix, this panang curry became an excellent lunch meal. The firmness of the turkey meatballs contrasted with the crunch of the peanuts and smooth glide ...

Creating the Calzone

In the center of Loveland, on the shores of its eponymous lake, sits a little pizza shop. They make their own ingredients, import San Marzano tomatoes all the way from Italy and sell pizzas by the slice every day. Their signatures include a bruschetta pizza with marinated fresh tomatoes, a bianca pizza with creamy ricotta cheese and a stuffed spinach pizza with a side of dipping sauce. Arte Pizzeria’s hours and options have been confined by the ongoing pandemic, so fans have had to turn to other sources to get their fix. Some even try to recreate their recipes in the safety of their own homes. This recreation of Arte’s famous spinach pizza is actually a calzone. The recipe began with frozen chopped spinach, sautéed on low in basil-infused olive oil. Oregano and garlic seem like obvious choices for Italian food, but the addition of black pepper and chili powder add a depth of flavor and bring out a brightness in the spinach.  Basil-infused olive oil may be an intimidating phrase for...

UNC's Student Organizations Face Fallout From Coronavirus Crisis

On March 11, 2020, the University of Northern Colorado’s International Film Series hosted a study night to prepare students for midterms and keep people’s spirits up before spring break. Faculty adviser Yavanna Brownlee distributed refreshments and board games. Student director Ethan Hayes provided a soundtrack. Projectionist Kathryne White displayed a list of films they were planning on screening next. Nobody else came to the event. Hayes played smooth jazz to an empty Lindou auditorium. Brownlee worked on a puzzle by herself. White worked silently on her laptop. The space, which can hold around 100 people on a good day, was nearly empty. One possible reason why? The study night was hosted at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis. Halfway through the event, everyone in the room received an email announcing classes would be held online until April 6. Along with that, all in-person club meetings and events were canceled. There were no clear answers on what future events would look l...
